Fire and Metal on the Mountain - July 13-16, 2017
Anne Mitchell and Terri Caspary Schmidt will be here in July to teach two 2-day workshops in metal and glass in my Los Gatos, California studio. This is your chance to learn from the best and have fun doing it in a delightful studio set in the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains. Take one, or both workshops and take your silversmithing and lampworking skills to a whole new level. Here are the details:
Anne Mitchell's Metalsmithing Workshop (July 13/14)
Hand Forged & Riveted Heart Pendant, & Fine Silver Forged and Twisted Bangles $405 (includes kit fees)
8 Gauge, 8 Gauge, 8 Gauge.
Anyone who knows Anne knows that she adores heavy gauge fine silver. We will have a great day twisting, forging, pounding, forming and creating these two amazing bangle bracelets. Adding to the fun we are going to bezel set a round black onyx cabochon to one of the bangles. It is going to be a fun day that will end with two creations that are amazing in their weight and feel as you wear them.
Heart Shaped Pendant.
This is going to be a fun and rivet-filled day with Anne! Unlock the pure joy of taking a piece of 8 gauge round wire, a hammer, forging and form the wire into this unique heart pendant. Place rivets around the formed pendant, fuse your bail and finally personalize the pendant with a special final touch. A turn in the tumbler and a bath in a patina solution will make each and every piece unique.

Terri Caspary Schmidt's Flameworking Workshop (July 15/16) - Dots, Lines & Tessellations $520
This workshop is for intermediate bead makers who would like to achieve more precision, symmetry and refinement in their work. For two days we will set aside all our fancy tools, powders, metals, and fumes and focus on fine tuning variations of basic and ancient techniques in surface design. The mastery of these skills will give you freedom to express more complex ideas in your work. This is old school bead making with an emphasis on slowing down, finding your rhythm, and honing the skills that will help you transform your ideas into reality. Using a few simple tools and the power of your hand, eye and mind, you will take your bead making to a new level.
We will work on precise dot placement, dot shaping, optical color blending, pick-work, masking, stringer and micro-stringer techniques, as well as the use of negative space and line as key design elements. Terri will share her methods of shaping a base bead to achieve a good foundation for detailed surface work. You’ll learn some useful tricks with the 3 x 5” marver, and how precise heat control will enable you to manipulate the surface of your bead almost as you would clay. She will show you how to correct little errors in your work so you don’t have to plunge that 45-minute masterpiece in the water. Exercises will be technique oriented with lots of practice time and individual attention. We’ll have on-going discussions about inspiration and design. You’ll find that many interesting ideas can emerge from intense focus and repetition of basic techniques in lampworking.
Pricing: Individually these two workshops are $925, but if you'd like to sign up for both I'm offering a 10% discount - get both classes and enjoy 4 glorious days in the mountains for $832. This price includes:
